INGROWN TOENAILS

Ingrown toenails are one of the most common conditions that can cause toe pain. Sometimes the pain can be so severe that we can’t even put our shoes on!
An ingrown toenail comes about when the nail grows into the skin, creating an opening. This opening then becomes prone to infection, leading to inflammation, and in some cases, extreme pain.

Anyone can get an ingrown toenail. The three main culprits to an ingrown toenail are:

1. Incorrect cutting technique
2. Nail trauma/dropping something on your toe
3. Genetics – the nail can be too big for the nail space, involuted (curved), thickened or deformed.

Ingrown toenails are a common issue which can be dealt with. Simply see us (your podiatrists) and we can assess, examine and treat accordingly.
